Project Name: South Africa Meets the Southside Initiative (SAMSI)
Summary: The Syracuse University Chancellor and President, Dr. Nancy Cantor has initiated a sustained phase of community engagement for the University. One of the leading edges of this engagement is the Southside Initiative, where the university is investing significant resources into a targeted area on the Southside of the City of Syracuse. One exciting project emerging from the Southside Initiative is the South Africa Meets the Southside Initiative (SAMSI) Project. The basic goal of the project is to explore the degree to which information and communication technologies can be used to create a virtual organization structure to support sustained community-driven interaction between the Southside of Syracuse and a selected community in South Africa. The project is funded in part by a “Technology Entrepreneurship” grant from the Syracuse University Kauffman Foundation eNitiative.
